Executive search is the process of recruiting individuals for executive positions in organizations. One of the main characteristics of these top management recruitment missions is that the individuals whom the recruiters target are not particularly looking for a career change. It is the recruitment consultant’s duty to approach and convince them to leave their current employer and join the client company’s team of professionals.
Compared to other European countries, Romania is still at the beginning of its executive search « career ». While it is common sense to agree that specialist help is always desirable, Romanian managers have to choose between recruiting with their own resources – in which case the result is almost always mediocre – and using the specialist help of professional recruitment consultants – which should lead to far superior results. It is generally managers who have been exposed to international environments that resort to the services of professional recruiters and, by doing so, not only save time and money, but gain access to elite candidates they might not have been able to find themselves.
On the other hand, prejudice still persists among representatives of targeted companies, their perception of the executive search process being that recruiting their employees is an act of stealing. However this type of mentality is bound to disappear as companies specialized in recruitment for top management positions are becoming more and more active on the Romanian market. It will soon become clear to everybody that on a free market the movement of human capital is a natural phenomenon which is not caused, but eased by professional recruiters.
